Need: Big Round Frames

Recently, a friend showed me a video of The Kills doing their song Baby Says during an acoustic performance. I loved singer/songwriter Alison Mosshart's style before (check out this post from two years ago) but now I am royally obsessed with oversized round sunnies! This particular pot started to boil way back when I first saw those awesome two-tone Chanel glasses, but Alison has kicked the lid off of it with her metal mirrored pair (I'm pretty sure they're by Linda Farrow).

Finding the perfect pair for your face could be a bit tricky. Too small, too Lennon. Too big, and we're getting into 70's Elton territory. Not that either of those men had bad style, but anyway... Check out some of my finds and the video:

Summer Fever

So since midnight this Friday payday, I've been doing some semi-guilty-but-mostly-giddy sale shopping at DorothyPerkins.com. Their sale items are so awesome! The website is priced in pounds, so don't forget the 1 to 1.6 conversion rate. Here are some of the ultimate spring platforms I'm drooling over right now.

Want-y Wednesday

Just some lazy morning lusting at nasty gal: JC Reality Cutout wedge, Singled Out dress, Two-Tone Circle shades, Velvet Stripe tank.

I adore those shoes... Years ago during a little trip to Vegas I bought black strappy platform cutout wooden wedge sandals from Steve Madden, wore them to my college graduation (bad idea on grass), then traded them in at Crossroads after they had sat mouldering (figuratively) in my closet for a while. I have frequently regretted this isolated incident. Le Quaintrelle rocks them and gave me the sharpest pangs of remorse when I first discovered her blog, and now that the look is everywhere I'm kicking myself even more. I've almost got my buying-crap-on-impulse problem completely handled, but oh well, live and learn, and hoard wisely.

An Evening Bag

I found an unusual vintage bag a few weeks ago, but since I rarely require an evening bag it's been more of

a decoration than an accessory. Later, I ran across a photo on Olsens Anonymous featuring a similar bag!

I thought I'd take a few photos of mine, mainly because the opening is so awesome and the whole thing
reminds me one of those cloth bags people used to put ice in when they had a head injury. But glittery!

I Love Colors & Charity

I've been wanting some nice new solid colored tights, and while doing an in-depth browse of

We Love Colors' tights, I noticed how inespensive they are but more importantly, that during

the month of February they are donating 5% of their sales to Haiti Relief efforts. Makes me

feel slightly less bad about shopping online while sitting in my cozy bedroom eating fries...

I love looking at color names. The ones above that I'm pondering are Rupine, Lavender and Lilac.

It reminds me of my giant box of Crayolas, before the crayons got all cheap and waxy. Being intro-

duced to Cerulean (both the color and the word itself) was a momentus occasion in my childhood.

( P.S. I ended up ordering the Lilac solid color tights for $8, to test their quality. )

Shopping: Modcloth sale coats

Modcloth is having a huge 70% off sale right now... why did I sign up for that newsletter... darn it!

I love love love these coats, and they're both on sale for less than $40! I need to sleep on this rash decision, since I already ordered those vintage boots this paycheck. Okay that sounds good, I'll sleep on it and then check my bank account for the zillionth time to make sure bank of america hasn't been holding back a charge, lying in wait to screw me over.

Editor's Note: I emailed the company, asking where these coats were made, and since I'm on day five of trying to not buy anything new made outside the U.S., well, these are out *sigh*

SOLD: lace up boots (my first etsy purchase)

I actually found a few pairs of vintage lace-up boots on etsy, and I decided on these:

I cannot wait to get them! Finding my size (6.5) before someone else snags it really only worked out because these babies were listed today. Ka-chow!

I have decided to get a pair of lace up boots on payday, and I've got some options on my mind, so I want to put them together and hopefully I'll be decided enough to order!

These are from forever21.com, and for less than $35 one of them will probably be mine by the weekend, muahahaha.

I really adore these from aldos.com, buuut not quite enough to part with $99. Too bad f21 hasn't made 'em ye!

The only thing I hate about these brands is that they don't have half sizes, grr!

After a friend received her much-coveted Kindle for Christmas, she enlisted me to make a case for it. She loved it so much and I got so much positive feedback from people who saw it that I've jumped back on the crochet cozy train.

Admittedly I was and still am skeptical about a lot of the Kindle's points, and I still greatly prefer good old books, but I did enjoy the greatest factor of all, which my friend pointed out to me: no more sore arms from holding books in uncomfortable positions while reading lying on your side! Genius!

And if I did have a Kindle of my own, I'd actually probably want a case like this:

I need a new everyday bag, something that's roomy enough, structured but comfortable enough to carry around, but not ridiculously huge or heavy. I am always drawn to oversized bags, but I'm finally realizing that they look ridiculous next to my 5'2" frame. I am no Olsen twin. And if it's too small I just won't wear it. I always like to have all my stuff with me. The usual contents of my purse include cell phone, iPod, Chapstick, planner/sketchbook, disgustingly bulky keychain, extra gloves in the winter, sunblock in the summer, point-and-shoot camera, and sometimes a book, a snack, a craft project or a drink.

I took a trip through Polyvore and found some unrealistic-but-jaw-dropping ideas...

[ Bargain Basement: Chloe vs Forever 21 ]

One of the biggest downfalls of reading copious fashion magazines while on a shoe-string budget is that you're exposed to a million different wonderful things you can't possibly afford. I know there's a lot of hoopla about the knocking-off of designer duds, but I can't bring myself to feel too badly about it. Not saying I'm into counterfeit, but I love me some trickle-down...

Fashion is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it's also apparently run by some pretty big cry-babies. Let's just knock this one off to imitation being the biggest form of flattery...

I'm a little obsessed with Chloé (the ads as well as the clothes), and I'm especially enamored of the Paraty bag

But with a four digit price tag, I thought it was a pipe dream...

until I stumbled across this gem:
