Good Evenin'

One of our walks around the neighborhood after work. There are tons of beautiful flowers and greenery, and a small farm tucked away. And the magic hour lighting never hurts, either.

Cats Rule Everything Around Me
Seriously. I don't even have a cat, but I feel like I do. The neighborhood is adorably overrun with fat and happy cats that want to just walk into your house like it's their own. I'd never seen this orange tabby before.

Sun Is Shinin'

We had such a lovely week! It was a bit windy so I wore a trench vest over the floaty dress to hold things down. The pleated skirt and bright colors are fun in the welcome sunshine and breeze We passed a florist, a bunch of shiny, polished equipment trucks  and a redwood tree that begged to be  included in the photographs.

You can't call a maxi dress "little" but this one has quickly become a staple, like a little black dress but more comfortable, casual and everyday. And since I'm lazy, I found out how well it works as sleepwear. I might just have to try to bring back bed-gowns, my boyfriend seemed to like it. But before I slept in it, I threw a short-sleeve sweater on over it for a slow, sunny workday.

I'm both excited and bewildered that it's already May; excited for summer weather and making ice cream, but confused by how quickly this year has passed. Wasn't it just Christmas? Nope, apparently it was just Cinco de Mayo. I didn't "celebrate" but we ended up eating lunch at Chili's, which was offering a Coronitas margarita, which was pretty fun. I've never found a restaurant or bar that offers this delicious and airy combination of Mexican beer and margies.

Purple Pizzazz

Happy midweek, everyone! I was hoping the beautiful warm weather would keep on through the weekend, but it doesn't look like that's the case. I keep forgetting it's only April. What do they say about April showers bringing May flowers? There's plenty blooming already! I love that my dress matches the ones behind me.

Feeling silly trying to pose for the camera, so I threw in a goof, modified tree pose anyone?

Lemongrass & Pansy

Happy Monday every body! I really loved this outfit. Perfect for a clear and sunny spring day, even if the rays weren't quite radiant enough for chilly me. Oreo was loving it, even while she avoided my camera. I don't think she's ever gonna get a book deal. She is not one of those doggies who loves the spotlight. I'm sure if she ever encountered a spotlight, she would freeze like a deer. She got so disgruntled I couldn't even interest her in the lemongrass, and she's a lil chewer.

P.S. Oreo's front paws are splayed; it reminds me of Dr. Seuss creatures :)

Morning Glory

I'm so so so enamored of this sweetly collared floral dress. I haven't been so excited about an article of clothing since the bold hued cable knit Forever 21 sweaters I kept buying in January. I picked up this gem a few weeks ago before my shopping ban, originally thinking it could make it into the shop. But when I tried it on, it fit so perfectly that I don't think I'll part with it. The colors are lovely, and while I know that the flowers aren't, the blues and plummy shades remind me of morning glory flowers, one of my favorites. And if you can't tell from my excited pointing, it does the amazing job of giving an illusion of a waist to a "ruler" gal.

There's going to be a few more outfit posts with this background, but I'm excited to find new places to take photos in my yard, since I'm writing this outfit post from the blissful comfort of our new digs! We moved most of the heavy furniture in with a friend's help {thanks Pat!} and I'm lounging on a new comfy bed with my computer on my lap, a blueberry muffin on one hand, and an amazing guy on the other hand, who is reciting along to Monty Python.

I can't quite decide if the dress is vintage or a reproduction. The fabric is really soft and nice and seems much too new and it's entirely possible the faded lace collar and rumpled vintage label were added to make it seem older than it is. Either way, I got it for less than ten dollars so it doesn't really matter. It's still my favorite new dress!

Our clothes our scattered everywhere in garbage bags and piles and we have no seating for company yet, but I'm really looking forward to getting set up for my birthday party/housewarming on Friday. I'm thinking limeade-mojitos or a Bloody Mary bar, Chicago-style hot dogs, a makeshift photo booth, candy candy candy everywhere, card games on the table, Archer on the television, dance music on the stereo and darts in the garage.

I'm also trying to come up with a dress code theme for this random shindig, since I finally have my own place to demand such silly things of my reluctant friends. Maybe I'll wear this dress again, and have my pals wear blue and purple or florals. What are some fun themes you know of?

My Eatin' Dress

Even though it really has nothing at all to do with the character's wardobe, I felt like the girl in The Secret Garden in this outfit. What's the key to the look for me? The boots. I get so much wear out of them, I just have to re-tell you that they were literally one cent. As in I scored at Wet Seal's usually unfortunate "Buy One Get One For a Penny" sale. The shoes are holding up much better than I expected and I wear them with everything, including this unbelievably wonderful coat I threw on for some unbelievably delicious sushi last Friday. Luckily the dress has, well pockets of course, but also a lightly elasticized waist, because we were soooo full we had to waddle home slowly, like bloated penguins.

Even thought it's so luxurious and cozy, I took off the faux fur collar (see it here). When I go downtown it gets commented on by street people, and not pleasantly. Seriously, strangers are like "HEY what animal did that come off of." I usually say something like "a plastic one" or "a stuffed toy" but they still just glare and stare. What is with people? Good thing the jacket is already red, just in case one day some barefoot hippie with a cell phone and a drug problem decides to throw paint on me for my "morals." Psh!

Real Life is for March

It's Leap Day! In case you didn't know (or didn't catch 30 Rock last week), Leap Day is a magical bonus day that comes around every four years where you take chances and wear bright blue and gold. But since my high school's colors were blue & gold, the combination kind of gives me flashbacks so I didn't wear the solid yellow skirt I originally planned. Instead, I wore the bright blue sweater I caved and ordered before the shopping ban. It's a bit cool for gold lamé booty shorts, but I'm sure Leap Day William was still satisfied.

Lemon Blossom

A few days ago, Eric and I signed the papers and are soon to get keys to our new place! In celebration and out of necessity I went on a shopping ban; but before I did, I found this amazing dress. Like five years late to the party, I finally found a pretty floral dress with a collar that I want to remake in a bunch of colors. I saw it one day and went back for it the next. I don't think I've worn this belt in a while, even though it's a fave.

I'm loving the mix of sweet florals, primary colors, leather and western vibes. And (sort of) speaking of lemon blossoms, I really hope my new neighbors won't mind my pillaging their lemon tree. I hope you all have a happy weekend!! I'm going to spend most of mine happily packing :)
