Need To Knit - Headgear
I'm pretty much obsessed with turban-style beanies and toppers right now. Catherine Baba and Calivintage have been rocking turbans for many moons now I know, but all of a sudden they don't seem so inaccessible. I just fell completely in love. Much more chic than a plain beanie, yet so gran-fabulous! Winter's coming fast, and I need to stock up on the hats. I like crochet more that knitting, so I also need to experiment.

Costume Drama: A Break From All Things Outfit
Edited by: Holier than Now
It's the Halloween season, when some of us choose to experience the thrill (or horror) of looking nothing like ourselves for a night. For those of you who blog or socially post your outfits, perhaps it's a chance to take a break from the judgmental eye of the spotlight (consider Love Brown Sugar and One More's pieces on the subject) - one night where you turn in "looking good" for looking scary, time period-accurate, or just ... a little sexier than usual. Inspired? Find last minute costume inspiration from Tickle Me Chic and more.
And for those of us who don't celebrate the witching hour, there's still a chance to step away from the closet and remind ourselves that great lingerie, shoes, bags, and jewels can make even a white tee and jeans look scary good.

Photo of the Day
I love the decadent, luxurious, smoky parlor in November's VOGUE.

Drizzle, Drawing and Cookies!
No photo from yesterday. I am really grumpy about my camera quality. How do I keep breaking CF
cards? Sigh... Breaking out some watercolor pencils is much more fun for me this way. If I should
want a crummy, grainy picture, I should just draw it instead! Except trying to do plaid; it is very
difficult for the novice. The weather was miserable, but I was cozy in some knit tights, hat and
boots. Bring it on, Winter!
Since it was requested, here is the yummy recipe I used to make Butterscotch-Chip Oatmeal Raisin
cookies last week. Experiment with the added goodies (do coconuts and raisins go together?) and
try making a half-batch, since you'll probably eat them all the first day ;)
Oatmeal Raisin Chip Cookie Recipe
(yields about three dozen)
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1/2 to 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 to 1 cup chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate, M&M's, etc.
♥ Pre-heat oven to 350°
♥ Mix the first 5 ingredients listed in a big bowl. Separately mix together the next 3 ingredients, then stir the dry mixture into the moist mixture.
♥ Stir in the oats, raisins, and other goodies. Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet.
♥ Bake 9 to 11 minutes; let cool 2 minutes before removing from pan
Late Fall Romp
Who knew a romper could work so well on a dreary, drizzly day? My floral playsuit just didn't
get enough wear this summer, so I pulled it out for a lazy day of running errands and working
on projects. I paired the light fabric with a thick scarf, woolen tights and a long sweater; along
with my car heater and some tea, I was toasty! I need more sweater-y tights, suggestions??
I found out soon after I got it that the tail on my purse in rainy weather ends up looking like a
drowned cat arm. Oh well. It blow-dries nicely ;) Still, I'm loving the downsized purse. Great for
little trips, and I can throw it into a big carryall with all my stuff for work and only carry one thing.
sweater - target dress; romper - kohl's sale; scarf - crossroads; belt - thrifted; shoes - payless; purse - h&m
That's me daydreaming about cookies. Cookies for peace? Late last night I realized I had all the
supplies, so I made Butterscotch Chip Oatmeal Raisin Spiced cookies. They were delicious!
Let me know if you want the recipe ;)

Into The Shadows
Brown, grey, black, with a splash of sky blue. Doesn't sound like a tasty mixture, but I thoroughly enjoyed the "no-no" pairing today. I figured out how to circumvent the striped lining in the cuffs, and now it's my favorite blazer again! Eight hours in heeled boots was a little tough, but I'm determined to wear what I want, no matter the obstacles in the way, darn it!
I've lately stumbled across some inspiring fashion illustration blogs. Largely because of Little Tin Soldier and Kelli Murray, I tried my first fashion sketch with pencil and a basic computer paint program. Erm, the first draft was not so great, but really fun! I'll have to investigate paint pens and other tools... and practice a lot.

This is such a model shot:
What started out dreary ended up being a pleasantly sunny day. Winter is fast approaching, and I tend to bundle up extremely to keep from feeling the chill. I'd almost forgotten how different it is to get dressed expecting to walk in rain; it also feels strange to have straightened hair now. Nearly ten years of flat-ironing and five years of coloring (mostly black) has left me with a new appreciation of my natural color and texture again. I have the urge to dye it dark brown again, or red, but I know I'll regret it. Now I just need to find some more hats to help the growing-out phase through winter...
polka-dot top - self made; jeans - wet seal; necklace - cost plus; hat - h&m
I had a pretty productive/relaxing/cathartic weekend. It's back to work, but I've had some assistance with my rose-colored glasses, and that's making this week start off well. Reading Kate Maggie's inspiring post the other morning helped me make a conscious effort to be more grateful. It's damned difficult for a negative nancy like me to invent bubbly, positive thoughts when my surroundings are less than ideal. But I figure hey, every time I think something positive like "I'm glad I have a job" or "This cake is so good," I'm NOT thinking something unneeded like "I wish I lived closer to my workplace," or "I hate traffic." Habits are hard to change, but replacing even one lousy thought with a good one can add up! More good things:
- cleared out all the rubbish in my room
- put yarn into one place
- put away clothes
- finished reading two books
- cleaned bathroom
- worked on scarves
- played with my pup ♥♥
- practiced making crochet hearts
& hi new readers!!

Coats on!
Edited by: Florrie Clarke of Intrinsically Florrie
Change is literally in the air, bringing with it the cold and rain that requires a wardrobe transition. I must confess to being ill prepared myself and as a consequence have been drenched in the freezing cold. Time to get out your boots and coat because fall is well and truly here. may stick stubbornly to my floral dresses all year round, but the difference is in the layers. So I'm on the look out for fabulous tights and there are a couple of lovely posts to help me choose or even DIY my own style.

I haven't found too much lately that inspires me to make a "muse" collage, but pretty much every photo I come across of Vogue Nippon's Anna Dello Russo makes me smile. Her sheer love for clothes, costume jewelry, fantasy, and escapism come across in every outfit she concocts, and reminds me why I've always loved to play dress up. She's one of the few people I don't resent for their closets; she's earned it!
